Welcome to BelRiver Canine Creations!
Creating unique items for your tiny companion ...
When we got Tink, I was enthralled at how tiny she was. Her size was not nearly
enough to contain the huge personality in that chihuahua body! But we made the decision to treat her as "one of the dogs" (we have a total of 8 little canines), and let her play and be herself. It was tempting, however, to see if she would consent to wear a little sweater (we got her in the winter, of course!) ... but nothing I could find to buy, was small enough for her.
I have been sewing since I was a child. But for years, the ability was "in mothballs", as I had no real desire to create anything for myself. When I began having the current round of small animals, I joined community forums which had photos of ferrets, rats, sugar gliders, etc ... all enjoying hammocks and hidey-pouches. People made and sold these - and I, forgetting my own abilities temporarily, purchased some for my animals.
WELL ... that opened up a whole new world for me! I quickly found that my little darlings would happily chew up their new beds, and I am not rich!! I thought to myself ... "I could MAKE these..." ... and my abilities came out of those mothballs! I made trips to the fabric store, giddily amassing fabrics for cozy beds for my babies. It was such fun to create again, and to see how easy it was to make them happy - AND how affordable it had become to give them all the soft, snuggly beds they could ask for!
Still ... I was a bit unrequited. I wanted to use the beautiful, shimmery fabrics ... I wanted to make creations that DIDN'T get chewed up, that would inspire people to go "Ahhhh!" and "Ohhhhhhh!" and somehow, an iguana's hammock doesn't do that ... why, I don't know!!
Enter TINK!
After finding that she was too small for me to find ready-made garments for, and copping to the fact that yes, I was becoming one of THOSE toy dog owners who wanted to dress their dogs in clothes ... I hatched a thought. Couldn't I figure out how to scale down some of the items I liked, so they would fit her? Oh, YES!!!
And BelRiver Canine Creations was born ... first, for Tink alone. Then, as I came to realize that others would like to have original, creative designs for their own little darlings, this website was created! Enjoy wandering through it. And should you begin to desire a Creation just for you, I look forward to hearing from you!
